Yvette comes from the Eastern Cape, South Africa, where she qualified at the ‘Port Elizabeth Teachers’ Training College’, to obtain a Graduate Higher Diploma of Education. Her training provided her with unique skills to teach English as a first and second language using a multi-sensory approach. She also has additional TESOL and Music qualifications and successfully uses Music as a powerful teaching tool in class, to inspire new learners of English in a fun-filled manner, so that they can learn and consolidate the language and associated vocabulary through songs and actions.

After teaching in South Africa for 18 years, she spread her wings to teach in the UK. This fuelled her taste for teaching internationally and she then went on to teach in Qatar in 2 different schools where she honed her skills by teaching Year 3, Year 1, Special Needs and Music. Thereafter, she took a leap of faith to join a school in Ghana, West Africa. Yvette was responsible for the training of a group of local teachers in Ghana and held several successful workshops and sharing and learning’ sessions through classroom observations.

She believes that learning happens everywhere, that it is not confined to a classroom, not confined to teacher-student relationships, and not confined to curriculum content. She values children and therefore strives to create an atmosphere in class where every child feels safe, happy and confident enough to reach their full potential. After many years of teaching, the children are still her passion and she still takes delight in their antics and enjoy celebrating each distinctive success with them. It is their inexhaustible zest for life that keeps her young and fit.

Yvette, and her husband, Mossie, love to explore the outdoors, spending time together walking, camping and travelling. They both enjoy engaging with people and learning and experiencing as much as possible about local customs. They look forward to the challenge and excitement of a new experience in Kazakhstan and cannot wait to meet the KIS family.
