Megan is a South African primary teacher, with a bachelor’s degree in Education (with Psychology) from Stellenbosch University in South Africa. She furthered her studies by taking part in Play Therapy and Art courses in her own time throughout her four years in Stellenbosch.
Megan is joining KIS along with her husband, Kyle, to experience a new culture and further develop her career. Megan’s classroom learning environment promotes fun, growth, and a sense of family. She ensures that each and every one of the children in her class knows that they are important, and she is passionate about developing the confidence and resilience of the children in her care.
Megan has been teaching for nearly seven years, over five of them in international schools. Her first international experience of teaching kindergarten in Bangkok, Thailand gave her experience of working with English Language Learners of all abilities and backgrounds. Megan then moved to Dubai, where she worked as an upper and lower primary teacher for three years. While in Dubai she discovered the success of collaborative learning in building up students’ confidence, critical thinking, and independence.
Megan loves to travel and experience new places and cultures. She is passionate about giving back to the community in which she lives and does her best to instil this sense of responsibility in her students. Megan has spent a great deal of time in Malawi, helping to set up an international school and training local teachers in international teaching standards.
Megan engages her creative side through her love of calligraphy and water colours painting, which she has shared with students and colleagues as an after-school activity for the past three years. Megan keeps active and loves to be outdoors in nature - hiking, camping and snowboarding. She is happy to be joining the KIS family and looks forward to experiencing all that Almaty has to offer!
