About Kazakhstan International School (KIS)

Founded in 1999, Kazakhstan International School is a small school with big ambitions! Located in Kazakhstan’s beautiful former capital Almaty, KIS is a full-continuum IB World School. We are authorized by the IB to deliver the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) from Early Years through Grade 5, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) from Grades 6-10, and the prestigious IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12.

We have recently completed an exciting chapter of expansion. Our bright, modern new campus opened in December 2018 and our community of world-class teachers, efficient support staff, and multinational families has grown rapidly. Ideally located in a central yet leafy area in Almaty's foothills, with stunning views of the mountains and the city, our new campus offers excellent facilities to support our students’ academic, physical, personal and social development.

Our aim is to be the leading IB school in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, so that the children of our multicultural community can be fully prepared for the challenges of the fast-changing world in which we live. Our students and teachers come from about 30 countries. KIS students are independent, creative, socially aware individuals who are a delight to work with. Our local and expatriate staff form a cohesive team of diverse cultural backgrounds, ages and experiences, and we work in close partnership with parents for the benefit of the children.

About Almaty and Kazakhstan

Almaty is a lively, safe and well-developed city in a spectacular setting at the foot of the snowy Tien Shan mountains. We have a true four-seasons climate with glorious sunny summers, crisp, snowy winters, and a colourful spring and autumn. Lovers of the outdoors can enjoy year-round hiking; cycling and camping in the summer; and skiing, snowboarding and ice-skating in winter. The city’s cultural life is rich and varied, with opera, ballet, classical and modern music alongside a vibrant café culture, innumerable restaurants offering cuisine from around the world, and a thriving nightlife. Kazakh culture centres on the family, and the city is well-suited to young and growing families. Kazakhstan itself is a vast and beautiful country to explore, from the green expanses of the steppe to majestic mountains, dramatic deserts, and two landlocked seas, as well as many archaeological and architectural wonders. Europe, Central and Southeast Asia, China, the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East are easily accessible from Almaty.

Working at KIS

Knowledge, understanding and experience of the IB programme (especially PYP/MYP) is advantageous but not a requirement; initiative, adaptability, resilience, and a sense of humour are essential. You must be able to develop strong and positive relationships with colleagues, students and parents alike, and be willing to contribute fully to school life. Creativity in all its forms is highly valued at our school, so tell us what you can do! Teaching couples are welcome.

Minimum requirements are:

  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A formal teaching qualification
  • At least two years’ experience in an international or national school setting.

We offer a competitive tax-paid salary, accommodation allowance, baggage allowance, medical insurance, and flights. We also offer a welcoming, supportive multicultural environment in which everyone’s talents have the chance to shine and develop fully.
