Elena Maksymova has been at KIS for the last 11 years and has originally joined KIS as an Early Years teacher following her 10 years at a prominent international IB World school in Ukraine.

Elena holds two Bachelor’s degrees: in Education and Business Administration; Master’s in International Education from Framingham State University, Massachusetts, USA, and the International School Principal Certification from Principals’ Training Center in London, UK.

During her time at KIS Elena has worked as both an educator and the school administrator. She has worked with young children in Early Years, Grade 1 and as the whole school librarian. Elena has also served as the Head of Early Years at KIS for 9 years, PYP coordinator for 3 years, Deputy Principal for 1 year and the School Principal and Director for 7 years. Elena continues to serve as the Chairperson for Confederation of Almaty International Schools and Headmasters (COASH) helping Almaty school community contribute to the development of the whole child by offering students of a number of private and
international schools of Almaty opportunities in sports and academics. Elena is also currently the President of Almaty International Women’s Club (AIWC) and has been an active member of this organization for 7 years supporting with the
community outreach and charity initiatives both locally and internationally.

Elena is very passionate about primary education and the IB curriculum framework. Her joy is watching the elementary school students learn to read and inquire. Her dedication is to supporting her professional team of teachers in instilling the love of learning in young students and becoming confident learners. Although she is a dedicated educator, Elena is also a mother and a wife. Elena has been married for 25 years and has a 15 year old daughter. While Elena and her family share their home between Latvia and Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Almaty have become their true “home” over the last 11 years and they really enjoy the culture and traditions of Kazakhstan and also the warmth and hospitality of people here.

In her spare time, Elena enjoys exploring the beautiful nature and mountains of Almaty with her family, reading, crafts, and has recently started learning to play piano and tennis.

Elena is excited about the new opportunities at KIS as the Elementary SchoolPrincipal this year as KIS goes through the adoption of the AERO (Common Core) Standards, further MAP implementation and PYP evaluation visit.
