Adrian brings a love of mathematics and a passion for extra-curricular endeavours to KIS. Originating from not-so-sunny London in the United Kingdom, Adrian’s mathematics degree from Loughborough University propelled him into a career of teaching mathematics. After training, qualifying and working as a mathematics teacher in London, Adrian jumped at the opportunity to move to Cambodia to combine his passions for teaching and travelling. Working within an international school in Phnom Penh, Adrian has taught mathematics to middle and high school students, and was given a position of responsibility which required him to lead a whole-school initiative to improve teaching and learning.
Sharing his enthusiasm for extra-curricular activities with the students at KIS is almost as exciting to Adrian as teaching them mathematics. He has experienced the highs and lows of competitions as a volleyball, basketball and football coach, but seeing students develop their resilience and desire to play for their team has always been the most rewarding aspect of coaching. Off the playing field, Adrian has created and run after-school STEM and mathematics clubs. Whilst working with his school's Student Voice committee in his previous school, Adrian led a number of projects which raised thousands of dollars for local charities in Phnom Penh. ‘Run January’ was an event which saw the whole school take on the challenge of having a healthier lifestyle - culminating in Adrian running a 128 km ultra-marathon around the temples of Angkor Wat! Adrian is attracted to Almaty and KIS by the diverse staff team, inquisitive learners and exciting Kazakh culture... and the opportunity to run in the beautiful natural surroundings of this special city.
