WELCOME TO KIS!
Kazakhstan International School is a special place. When I first walked into the school I felt a sense of community, a sense of awe and a sense of wonder. As I spent my time looking through the school, I learned that those qualities are permanent fixtures in the school. The students are courteous and courageous, the teachers are passionate and engaging and the parents are supportive and welcoming. It was for these reasons I chose to join KIS. This year represents my 20th in education, my 16th as an IB educator and my 9th as a senior leader and I am excited to bring that experience to Almaty to build on the foundations described above. As Head of School, I will make myself available - not only to listen to parents - but to partner with them to help KIS serve their children better.
Ole Bernard Sealey, Head of School
Dear Secondary School Families,
I am delighted to welcome students and families, both new and returning, to KIS Secondary School! The 2021-2022 academic year is a year of firsts. This year marks the first time that KIS will have students in Grade 12, and in May of 2022 we will celebrate our first graduating class. The students are also the first students at KIS that will sit IB Diploma examinations in May of 2022, and this group of students will be the first group of KIS students to embark on university study. We are very proud to offer the IB MYP for students in Grades 6-10 and the IB Diploma Programme for students in Grades 11 and 12. Our PYP prepares students for success within the MYP, and the MYP prepares students for success in the DP. It is an exciting time to be a part of KIS, and we are looking forward to a fantastic year of learning and growing together. I am very pleased to have the honour of working with the KIS community and am looking forward to a year of firsts!
Jeffrey Smith, Secondary Principal

Early Years Education is an important part of a child’s learning journey, as it creates a foundation for physical, emotional and cognitive development. The IB Primary Years Programme, which starts at the age of three, values the Early Years as a time in which play is the primary driver for inquiry. Play involves choice, promotes agency and provides opportunities to inquire into important concepts and personal interests. Students learn to build relationships, understand learning spaces, discover symbolic exploration and start expressing themselves. It is important to remember that children learn from almost everything and everybody. At KIS we support and inspire children’s curiosity, creativity and imagination. It is an amazing time to see how young learners grow and learn, and it is our priority to facilitate each child to follow their dreams and passions and achieve their personal best.
