KIS became an authorized IB PYP school on April 12, 2010 and now functions as a fully authorized IB PYP international school.
The journey with IB began on January 1, 2008, when KIS was granted the status of PYP Candidate School by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). This was a required phase during the process for authorization by the IBO to offer the Primary Years Program.
During this phase of the authorization process, KIS worked to put into place all the necessary processes and resources to implement the IB Primary Years Program, including teacher training, curriculum development, and providing opportunities for teachers to plan collaboratively. It was also critical during this part of the process that KIS articulate and communicate well to inform all parents regarding the characteristics of the PYP and how KIS implements it in our classrooms. KIS is committed to continued growth and development with the IB PYP in all aspects of our school community – from students and teachers to parents.
Our PYP Coordinator, Mrs. Elena, is the official liaison between KIS and the regional IBO office. The PYP Coordinator also oversees the IB PYP at KIS, assisting with teacher training, ensuring curriculum development progresses as well as ensuring that all KIS teachers have time to plan collaboratively. Our PYP Coordinator also helps our students and parents understand the IB PYP—how it works to accomplish the best possible learning experiences—and is the IB PYP liaison for all of us at KIS, from students and parents to teachers and faculty.
